| Head
off the highway and explore some of the best 4WD areas Australia
has to offer, with an endless number of tracks available that vary
from easy to extremely difficult. And if you don’t have your
own 4WD, one of the many tour operators will provide you with a
hassle free adventure and one or two adventure stories of their
own. Even motorbike trail riding tours are available.
With Dinner Plain located centrally, the Alpine National Park stretches
from Walhalla in Victoria’s south-east to Canberra, Australia’s
capital city, and is an excellent place to spend a weekend, a week
or even a month four-wheel driving. However, many tracks in the
Alpine National Park close during the winter period (June to November)
so check with Parks Victoria during these times.
Meet nature on its own terms in this park that protects the state’s
highest mountains and pristine alpine environments. Some of the
tracks deep in the park are for experienced four wheel drivers only,
but there are many other tracks where you can get away, enjoy beautiful
views, and appreciate the quiet wonder of the alps.
Some
of the many 4wd options include :
Dinner Plain Track to Dargo, returning via the Dargo High Plains
Road and Mt Hotham
The Twins Jeep Track dropping down from Mt St Bernard into the
Buckland Valley
Blue Rag Range - spectacular ridge top views
There a rane of publications and maps that detail the numerous
areas that can be explored by 4WD, along with details on how easy
or difficult the tracks may be depending upon experience level.
